Expert report review
Website focus: Clothing and sewn product examination. The specific items, questions, materials and deliverable format are agreed before work begins.
What a review examines
A review considers the quality of an existing report: the sufficiency of source data, description of the objects, methods used, completeness of the examination and logical connection between the results obtained and the findings. It does not replace a substantive examination of the objects themselves.
Main review questions
- Does the examination address the questions posed?
- Are the materials used and limitations described?
- Are the methods and sources explained?
- Do the findings follow from the analysis?
- Are there contradictions, omissions or unsupported statements?
Materials for a review
The complete report with appendices, the appointment document or brief, materials relevant to the examination and specific objections are needed. If only individual pages are provided, only those pages can be assessed, with the limitation expressly stated.
Result
The agreed deliverable sets out the deficiencies identified and their supporting reasoning and, where needed, questions to clarify the examination. Decisions on an additional or repeat examination and the assessment of evidence are made by an authorised person.

Verifiability of findings on fabric, seams and dimensions
A review should show the link between a specific observation and the conclusion. If an opinion describes a seam coming apart, check whether thread breakage, fabric damage and separation of the join are distinguished. If shrinkage or a size mismatch is reported, the measured areas, reference points and basis of comparison should be clear.
A photograph allows visible signs to be assessed within the limits of its quality and coverage; its origin and connection with other materials matter when attributing it to a particular item. An overall photograph does not always reveal damage structure, the exact amount of change or material composition. The reviewer therefore assesses which observations support the stated answer and which properties require other data.
Questions about the completed examination
- Are the described defects linked to a specific item and its areas?
- Are the conditions of inspection, measurement and the test used clear?
- Is label information distinguished from properties established by examination?
- Are wear, care history and alterations taken into account?
- Is the conclusion about the flaw’s origin substantiated, rather than merely its existence?
Original photographs, measurement tables, test records and order documents help verification. If only selected pages are provided, comments must relate to the available part and must not imply that the entire examination was checked. A focused review helps formulate clarifying technical questions while maintaining the distinction between examining the text of an opinion and conducting a new examination of the item itself.
